In 2010, our Information Technology department purchased software that automatically powers down all Linn County computers at 5:30pm and power them up at 7am. The software cost $5,000 and the savings we have realized paid for itself within 1 year. Our goal was not only to save money and reduce our energy expenditures, but also to reduce our carbon footprint.
Since implementing this software in February 2010, Linn County has saved:
*$9,842.56 in electricity bills
*145,653 pounds of CO2 emissions
*125,978 Kilowatt hours of electricity
Every month, we average approximately $390-$450 of electricity savings.
In two short years our savings is twice what we spent to purchase the software and we will continue to see savings every month for as long as we have computers!
